Conversation practice

What everyday words and phrases to learn first?

The initial vocabulary should help solve real problems: get to know each other, ask for help, make a purchase, find your way, or explain how you are feeling.

Greetings and introductions

Start with “hello,” “goodbye,” “please,” “thank you,” and “sorry.” Then add the phrases “What is your name?”, “My name is...”, “Where are you from?” and “Nice to meet you.”

Misunderstandings and requests

Particularly useful phrases are “I don’t understand,” “Please speak more slowly,” “Please repeat,” and “What does that mean?” They allow you to continue the conversation even with a small vocabulary.

Shopping and cafes

Learn the names of money, map, water, coffee, food and store. Practice the questions “How much does it cost?”, “Can I pay by card?” and “I would like this.”

Road and transport

Useful words are “street”, “city”, “station”, “ticket”, “car” and the phrases “Where is the station?”, “I need a ticket”, “When does the train leave?”

Health and Safety

Remember the expressions “I need help,” “Call a doctor,” “I don’t feel well,” and “Be careful.” It is better to repeat such phrases along with pronunciation.

How to secure material

Listen to each phrase, say it out loud, choose a translation and find pairs. Return to the erroneous cards until the answer is certain.
