How to learn a foreign language every day and not quit

Regular short practice is usually more beneficial than infrequent long practice. Below is a simple plan that can be built into a typical day.

Start with a small amount

Choose five to ten new words and a few phrases. Read them, listen to the pronunciation and try to find out the translation without a hint. A small task reduces resistance and helps you practice regularly.

Learn a word within a situation

A single translation is remembered worse than a word in a clear example. Read the sentence together with the word, imagine the situation and say the example out loud. For travel, questions about travel, tickets and hotels are useful; for work - requests, answers and explanations.

Alternate recognition and reproduction

First, select the correct translation from several options. Then close the translation and try to remember it yourself. The pairing exercise helps you quickly check the connection between a word and its meaning.

Repeat difficult cards

Don't mark a word as learned just because you saw the correct answer. Go back to the card, read the example and listen to the pronunciation. Mistakes are useful if they are followed by correct repetition.

Example of a daily activity

  1. Five minutes - repetition of familiar words.
  2. Five minutes - new cards.
  3. Five minutes - phrases and pronunciation.
  4. Two minutes - exercise “Pairs”.

The main rule

The best plan is one that can be followed for a long time. Start with short lessons, monitor your progress and gradually add new topics.
